No Excuse Team – Dorset Police

A team of Special Constables is helping make roads across Dorset safer. They are a crucial part of the No Excuse team, which was re-established in 2014 to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on the county’s roads.

The Specials give the team the extra capacity to provide a 24/7 deterrent to those who choose to commit road offences.

The team has undergone specialist training, including enhanced driving skills and training on police computer systems. This has helped them achieve excellent results when on police operations, including the removal of 30 drink drivers from the roads.

They secured funding for their own unmarked vehicle with full Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology – a move which helped them seize six vehicles during one operation.

Above all, their commitment is exemplary: five of the six specials with the highest hours worked in Dorset are from the No Excuse team.
