North Yorkshire Police Cadets

North Yorkshire’s two Police Cadet units are run by volunteer Cadet Leaders.

Nearly half of the units’ recruits are young people from disadvantaged backgrounds – and the aim of the scheme is to offer them an opportunity to develop their personal and social skills.

Cadet Leaders understand that young people are individuals and learn in different ways – and plan their sessions to be both engaging and understandable for all members of the unit.

The Police Cadets make a valuable contribution the force’s operations. For example, in one year alone, the York Cadet unit took part in 158 different policing activities. It is estimated that the hours worked by these young people were worth more than £35,000 to the force.
