Suffolk Special Constabulary formed a team in the west of the county to tackle crime by executing warrants to search property and arrest offenders. The team was set up to mirror the work of warrants teams run by regular police officers in the county.
The Specials received specialist training in entering properties, carrying out searches, identifying different types of drugs and preparing cases for court. Soon, they were able to work as an independent team, performing everything from the receipt of the warrant through to the preparation of casework for court after people were arrested and charged with criminal offences. Their success resulted in the Constabulary setting up a similar team of Specials in the south of the county. Since their formation, the teams have successfully executed more than 100 drug warrants, leading to arrests and successful convictions.
