The initiative – the first in the region – sees the volunteer police officers working alongside officers from the Tactical Support Team, Roads and Armed Policing, Search and Rescue and dog teams to provide specialist support when local police need assistance.
EMOpSS Special Constables receive additional training in areas such as traffic and crime legislation, and learn how to use speed enforcement technology and drug testing kits. They conduct operations to target the ‘fatal four’ of drink/drug driving, speeding, failing to wear a seatbelt and using a mobile phone while driving. They work across the four counties – Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire – covered by the service.
Officers taking part in the initiative view it as an excellent opportunity to learn new skills, face more challenges and work with a wider range of specialist police officers.
