Specials Lead Major Incident Exercise – Devon & Cornwall’s Special Constabulary

Devon and Cornwall’s Special Constabulary played a key role in a major incident exercise involving a fire in a tower block in Plymouth.

A Special Chief Superintendent acted as incident commander and took charge of cordons, ensured that the incident was properly risk assessed and all officers and staff were deployed appropriately.  He worked closely with other emergency service commanders to ensure the fire was extinguished, the ‘occupants’ were rescued and the exercise was completed successfully. Twelve Special Constables marshalled the cordons and were subsequently praised by the public for their professionalism and communications skills.
