Volunteering at this force

Warwickshire Police has strong links to the voluntary sector, and members of the public volunteer their time and skills in a number of different roles within the force, such as Special Constables, Police Support Volunteers and Police Cadets.

Police Support Volunteers assist with the work undertaken by police officers and police staff. Typical roles include organising community meetings, assisting Safer Neighbourhood Teams, updating members of the public on the progress of police investigations and offering crime prevention advice.

After initial training, Warwickshire Police Special Constables are assigned to a tutor constable for approximately 9-12 months. During this time the Special Constable will complete a personal development portfolio which covers various aspects of policing. They are then signed off for independent patrol.

Special Constables are able to work across a variety of policing teams, including visible patrols, roads policing initiatives, investigating crime, arresting suspects, taking statements from witnesses and tackling local issues.

A number of new roles are also being introduced to the Special Constabulary including work within specialist policing teams such as ‘close protection’ and forensic teams.

The Cadet Scheme in Warwickshire operates in Leamington Spa and Nuneaton and provides young people with a practical understanding of policing and the chance to develop their spirit of adventure and good citizenship, while supporting local policing through volunteering, working with partner agencies and positively participating in their communities.

Volunteers for Warwickshire Police are given the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and to gain a wealth of knowledge about the fascinating world of policing.  They learn about the wider police service and duties of a police officer, powers of arrest, personal protection, and a whole range of career skills.
