Cadet Support Volunteer – Chesterfield, Derbyshire

To maintain our success with the Derbyshire Volunteer Police Cadets, we are on the lookout for PSVs to become cadet leaders to help mentor the young people who take part. Whether it be delivering a teaching programme of any sort, engaging in a community activity, or leading a Duke of Edinburgh expedition, we are looking for leaders to support and encourage these young people.

The Derbyshire Volunteer Police Cadet Scheme is aimed at 13 to 18 year olds who wish to have an insight into the police, and are keen to be involved in a police orientated youth group working alongside their local communities. The aims of the scheme to give young people an insight into the many and varied aspects of policing, to make them aware of the role of the police in society, to develop their character, and to promote good citizenship.

Skills Required

Experience of working with volunteers, young people or youth groups would be beneficial.

Ability to motivate a team to achieve a set objective

Good communication skills with a wide range of people, as individuals or in groups. You should have basic IT skills, but will receive training on any systems required. Any experience or qualifications in areas such as First Aid, Sports, drill, mountaineering or outdoor pursuits is always useful (but not essential)

The team is looking for leaders who are passionate about inspiring and helping young people, and who can commit to it on a regular basis. Cadet meetings are 1800-2100 hrs every Thursday (academic year) plus some weekend work during the year.
